Same Texas rules in every town
Whether you live in the city of Lubbock or out in the county, the same state rules apply. Texas licenses mold assessors and remediators through TDLR. Texas Occupations Code §1958.102 says a person is not required to be licensed to remediate an area of less than 25 contiguous square feet, so a hired company needs a license once the job reaches that size. Homeowners doing their own home are exempt at any size. On licensed jobs, the assessor and the remediator must be separate (§1958.155). This is general information, not legal advice.
Before you hire anyone, ask for the company's TDLR license number and check it on TDLR's license search. You can search by county, too, which helps when you want a company that already works in Lubbock or Hockley County. Our guide on how to verify a TDLR mold license shows each step.
Common moisture sources across the area
Most indoor mold here traces back to water getting in: roof leaks after hail, plumbing and slab leaks, evaporative coolers and HVAC drips, and flash flooding. EPA's mold guide says to dry water-damaged areas "within 24-48 hours to prevent mold growth."
